At the Conference on Local Science and Technology Work for the period 2006-2010, Minister of Science and Technology Hoàng Văn Phong announced that one of the priority directions in the coming years will be for the Ministry to collaborate with several provinces to establish regional science centers to drive the development of local science and technology.
The Ministry will continue to enhance programs supporting businesses and scientists in effectively managing intellectual property, protecting intellectual property rights, and assisting enterprises and ministries in addressing issues beyond their capabilities. For example, support will be provided to the fisheries sector to tackle anti-dumping issues and antibiotic residue problems.
In the near future, social science research in provinces and cities will focus on formulating policies, developing socio-economic plans, addressing issues related to agricultural transformation, labor, employment, and social evils in their localities. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on cultural, social, and historical aspects to preserve and promote local traditions.
For natural sciences and technology, the Ministry encourages localities to enhance research and implement appropriate technologies to serve the industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas, focusing on biotechnology in breed creation, strengthening research on technology and equipment for preserving agricultural and forestry products, and exploiting the advantages of specific products in ecological regions. Traditional craft villages will increase the improvement of traditional technologies to achieve qualitative and quantitative changes. The Ministry prioritizes technologies that utilize local materials in transportation, irrigation, and construction while implementing solutions to address environmental pollution.
During this conference, directors of Departments of Science and Technology expressed a desire for the Ministry to create an updated science information website. This platform would not only share successful scientific research methods and results from around the world but also update successful scientific achievements from localities in the country to avoid research duplication and save time and resources in scientific work.
