Astronauts will live and conduct research in the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), constructed by Northrop for the Lunar Gateway, a crucial component of NASA’s Artemis Moon program.
In a statement, NASA indicated that it is collaborating with commercial and international partners to build the Lunar Gateway to support scientific investigations and enable human landings on the Moon.
Northrop Grumman will be responsible for integrating and testing the modules with the solar-powered propulsion module currently under development.
Eight countries have signed an international treaty on lunar exploration as part of NASA’s Artemis program, as the agency seeks to establish standards for building permanent settlements on the lunar surface.
NASA aims to launch the integrated spacecraft on a SpaceX rocket in November 2024.
