Microsoft’s Warning on November 30: Windows Users at Risk of Losing System Control
Microsoft issued a warning on November 30, indicating that Windows users could lose control of their systems simply by visiting a website containing “malicious” code.
A security vulnerability in the Internet Explorer (IE) browser is being exploited by a dangerous Trojan known as “TrojanDownloader:Win32/Delf.DH”. This Trojan has been added to the alert list sent to all Microsoft customers.
According to Microsoft, the exploited vulnerability was previously discovered and reported in May 2005. Initially, security experts believed that this vulnerability could enable hackers to execute Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, rendering IE inoperable. Recently, a more dangerous potential has been identified, allowing for the remote execution of “malicious” code.
This vulnerability affects Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems. Attackers can take control of the system by uploading malicious code to a website and enticing users to visit it.
Currently, there is no patch available for this vulnerability, and Microsoft recommends that users disable Active Scripting in IE.
