Buying a Bicycle but Too Lazy to Ride is Real!
Skarper DiskDrive – The Bicycle Conversion Kit that Attaches to Disc Brakes
Recently, a company named Skarper from the United Kingdom launched a product called DiskDrive – a conversion kit that transforms a regular bicycle into an electric bike. What makes this product unique is that it attaches to the disc brake rather than the bike’s drivetrain, using the brake to transfer power from the rear wheel.
The accessory weighs about 3.3kg.
This design allows users to avoid replacing the rear wheel or modifying the drivetrain as with previous solutions; it can simply be installed for immediate use. The kit weighs approximately 3.3kg, making it light enough to remove and carry when not in use. The promotional video even shows users attaching a strap to the DiskDrive, carrying it like a handbag.
In terms of hardware, the DiskDrive is equipped with a 202 Wh lithium battery and a 250W motor, enabling the bike to reach a maximum speed of 32km/h – the speed limit for bicycles in the United States. With a single charge, the DiskDrive can operate for 60km, which is nearly 2 hours at maximum speed, after which users will need to “pedal on their own.”
The product is priced at up to £1000 or over 28 million VND.
This product is indeed unique, but the price is not “friendly” at all – reaching up to £1000 or over 28 million VND. This price is equivalent to a motorbike or an electric bicycle in Vietnam!
