The Bàu Sấu Wetland and the seasonal wetlands of Cát Tiên National Park (collectively referred to as the Bàu Sấu Wetland system) cover an area of 13,759 hectares, which includes 5,360 hectares of seasonal wetlands and 151 hectares of permanent wetlands. The recognition of the Bàu Sấu Wetland as a Ramsar site further affirms the value and significance of biodiversity conservation efforts in Vietnam. It facilitates the continued advancement of achievements in natural resource conservation and community development, while also enhancing benefits related to environmental protection, scientific research, and linking these efforts with economic, cultural, and social advantages.
The Ramsar Convention is “the convention on wetlands of international importance, especially as habitats for waterfowl,” signed on February 2, 1971, in Ramsar, Iran. Vietnam signed and joined the Convention in 1989, becoming the 50th member and the first Southeast Asian country to participate in this Convention.
