Throw Flame, a company specializing in flamethrowers based in the United States, has recently introduced the world’s first robot dog equipped with a flamethrower.
According to Oddity Central, robot dogs are not a new invention; they have appeared in countries like China and are competing with real working dogs. However, the Thermonator robot dog has garnered attention for its superior features, unprecedented in previous robot models.

The Thermonator is equipped with a high-performance flamethrower on its back, allowing the robot to project flames up to 9 meters away. According to Throw Flame’s website, the Thermonator enables users to ignite targets remotely. Throw Flame claims this is the world’s first robot dog of its kind, priced at 9,420 USD.
The Thermonator is a four-legged robot powered by a battery that lasts for one hour. It operates in First-Person View (FPV) mode with an integrated camera. FPV allows the operator to see what the robot observes in real-time, a feature currently used in various drones.
Another interesting feature of the robot dog is its use of LiDAR technology for navigation. LiDAR employs laser pulses to measure distances accurately and continuously to a specific target or area. LiDAR sensors are extremely useful mapping and measuring tools based on light in many different fields. According to Throw Flame, LiDAR also helps the robot avoid obstacles and operate in remote areas.
The Thermonator utilizes a compact, electric ARC flamethrower. Videos on Throw Flame’s website show the robot dog running and jumping across various terrains, from forested areas to snow-covered ground, while shooting flames. Weighing approximately 17 kg, the robot can be controlled remotely via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
This is the world’s first robot dog of its kind, priced at 9,420 USD.
While it can be used as a type of weapon, the company insists that the Thermonator is actually designed as a tool for pest control, snow removal, and safely igniting fires for film scenes.
In appearance, the Thermonator resembles the Unitree Go1 robot dog produced in China, enhanced with a flamethrower.
The Unitree Go1 is a relatively advanced robot, equipped with a variety of sensors and integrated cameras. This type of robot is considered a more affordable option compared to other robot dogs, such as Boston Dynamics’ Spot.
The Unitree Go1 is priced at around 3,500 USD, but Throw Flame has yet to announce the price for the flamethrower robot version. Currently, the company is accepting pre-orders and plans to launch this product in Q3 of 2023.
