Based on content analysis from PSVRatings, Family Media Guide has compiled a list of the 10 most “bloody” and violent games of 2005 just before the Christmas season, as a warning to parents who are busy shopping for gifts for their children.
Not everyone agrees with the list compiled by Family Media Guide. For example, the game 50 Cent: Bulletproof was outright banned in Australia on the grounds that “This game is violently unacceptable and inappropriate for anyone – including adults.” However, the talented yet controversial rapper 50 Cent appeared on television stating that parents could use this game as a tool for “education.”
Here is the list of 10 games identified by Family Media Guide (in random order):
1. Resident Evil 4. Players take on the role of a special agent on a mission to rescue the President’s daughter, who has been kidnapped. But right in the first minute of gameplay, players encounter her corpse impaled on a wall by a pitchfork driven straight through her face.
2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Players assume the role of a young man looking to gain respect by joining a gang. His assigned missions are varied: from murder and theft to destruction, etc. The character restores “health” by visiting… brothels and replenishing his wallet by beating prostitutes to death and robbing them (no further comments).

3. God of War: Players take on the role of a ruthless warrior on a mission of revenge against those who tricked him into murdering his own family. The game developers have meticulously created a toolkit for players to “end lives,” which includes options like burning alive or splitting prisoners in half.
4. NARC: Players assume the role of a drug enforcement agent tasked with cleaning up the white substance from drug trafficking dens. Of course, they also become targets of criminals lured by money and drugs. The unfortunate reality is that to level up, players must use various drugs, from ecstasy and LSD to Quaalude.

5. Killer 7: Players control seven assassins working together to eliminate a suicide bomber gang. Ultimately, this game escalates into a global conflict between the United States and Japan. Players collect blood from victims to heal their own wounds. To find underground passages, characters even have to cut themselves open to let blood flow.
6. The Warriors: Based on a 1970s action film that is considered to have “set a new standard for violence in art.” Players take on the role of a street gang sweeping through the city, destroying everything they find offensive.

7. 50 Cent: Bulletproof. This game is based on a portion of rapper 50 Cent’s biography, who was shot nine times in the chest due to conflicts between drug trafficking gangs before becoming a hip-hop superstar. Players engage in shootouts and step over the bodies of victims to buy 50 Cent’s new CD.
8. Crime Life: Gang Wars: Players take on the role of the leader of a street gang, spending the day fighting, recruiting new members, and committing robberies. They can roar down the streets in cars and kill anyone in sight without any justification.
9. Condemned: Criminal Origins: Players are FBI agents specializing in hunting down serial killers. The danger is that this violent game is also available on Xbox 360, increasing the risk of exposing children to its content. The next-generation graphics of the game depict the injuries on victims in horrifying detail after the “final blow.”
10. True Crime: New York City: Players are police officers in New York investigating the mysterious death of a friend. Players can plant evidence on civilians and beat them mercilessly when they need quick cash.
It is easy to see how dangerous the aforementioned games are. They not only promote and incite violence, sex, and drugs but also make children feel familiar with the dark world, treating violence as “everyday occurrences.”
