High-speed photography captures falling water droplets, creating abstract artworks that leave viewers in awe.
Throughout history, humans have sculpted artworks from various materials, from clay to concrete and bronze. While some sculptures are made from water in the form of ice, what if you could create sculptures from tiny droplets of liquid?
Norwegian artist Ronny Tertnes has achieved this. His liquid sculptures appear as if they belong to another planet or dimension, yet they remain recognizable as water droplets.
According to SLR Lounge, Tertnes employs ultra-high-speed photography, flash lighting, smoke, and various liquids to create and capture these colorful, momentary sculptures.
He is known to use a Canon 7D camera, renowned for its impressive high-speed shooting capabilities, paired with a Canon 100mm Macro lens for close-up photography. Additionally, he utilizes a drop device synchronized with a flash for capturing the perfect moment.
He mixes water with different substances to create textures, colors, and movements in his photos, producing an effect reminiscent of another world. Of course, Photoshop plays a crucial role in post-production, helping him produce the highest quality final artworks.
The uniqueness of his abstract photos lies in the distinctive movement of the water droplets, evoking associations with humans, flowers, aliens, or abstract sculptures. Sometimes, the droplets even resemble a dancing figure.
Tertnes has shared many such abstract pieces on Facebook and his website. We invite you to admire some of the works by artist Ronny Tertnes below:
