Nearly two years after introducing the intelligent robot dog named CyberDog, Xiaomi has launched its successor.
Named CyberDog 2, Xiaomi’s new robot dog features a completely redesigned look that resembles a real dog much more closely, from the shape of its joints to a more streamlined body and head that now rests on its neck.
Weighing in at 8.9 kg, the CyberDog 2 is 40% lighter than its predecessor. At the launch event, the Chinese company asserted that the new model closely resembles a real dog compared to the first-generation CyberDog, with its design modeled after a Doberman Pinscher. The robot dog is equipped with a total of 12 servo motors, allowing all four legs to move independently.

The CyberDog 2 features a 13 MP camera that utilizes AI for object recognition, alongside a 1 MP RGB camera, a 146-degree fisheye camera, and an Intel RealSense D430 depth camera for spatial awareness. Four microphone arrays combined with AI voice recognition enable the dog to respond to commands. Touch sensors ensure the dog reacts when being petted.
The software of the CyberDog 2 is open-source, allowing developers outside of Xiaomi to further enhance the robot dog’s capabilities. The robot dog can walk beside its owner, avoid obstacles, perform backflips, or skateboard. If it gets flipped over, it can right itself.
Xiaomi CyberDog 2 will be launched in China for approximately 1,640 EUR.
The CyberDog 2 is powered by a Nvidia Carmel 6-core ARM processor and Nvidia Volta GPU with 48 tensor cores for software processing. Its 97.2 Wh battery allows the robot dog to run for 90 minutes, with a full charge taking 90 minutes. Users can connect the dog to their smartphones via Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 to control it.

The company seems to position the robot dog as a platform for developers and advises consumers not to purchase it without a good understanding of its functions.
